RurevPrivacy Policy

Terms of Service

Effective date: September 28, 2026
Last updated: October 15, 2026

1. Agreement and Operator

These Terms of Service are an agreement between you and Rurev, the operator of the Rurev app and service. By creating an account or using Rurev, you accept these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Rurev. If you are below the age of majority where you live, you need permission from a parent or legal guardian.

3. The Service and License

Rurev helps natural history hobbyists keep a personal atlas of fallen pine cone scales. You can photograph a scale, record its collection date and site, source cone, position on that cone, and measurements, then browse specimens by cone position or location and compare selected scales. Optional field summaries describe patterns in tip shape and surface texture across the specimens you select. Rurev does not authenticate specimens or make definitive species identifications.

Subject to these Terms, Rurev grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the app for personal, noncommercial purposes on Apple-branded products you own or control, as permitted by Apple's Usage Rules, including use allowed through Family Sharing or volume purchasing. Rights not expressly granted remain with Rurev.

4. Accounts

You must create an account through the app's registration screen and sign in using the credentials or sign-in method you selected during registration. Keep your login details secure and contact Rurev@gmail.com promptly if you suspect unauthorized access. You are responsible for activity under your account except where applicable law provides otherwise.

Your account information, specimen photos and notes, collection locations, atlas entries, summary cards, and coin balance are recorded and stored so you can access your history after signing in. You can review and edit your specimen records in the app. To close your account and initiate deletion of its associated stored data, use the account deletion option in the app. If you cannot access your account, contact Rurev@gmail.com. We may retain only information required for legal obligations, fraud prevention, or dispute resolution, as explained in the Privacy Policy. Deletion may be irreversible.

5. Acceptable Use

You may not:

  • reverse engineer, copy, resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit Rurev, except where applicable law expressly permits it;
  • attack, overload, interfere with, or bypass the security of the app, servers, or other accounts;
  • submit unlawful, infringing, deceptive, or harmful content, or violate another person's privacy or rights;
  • harass others, impersonate another person or organization, or use the service to facilitate unlawful conduct; or
  • use Rurev to encourage collecting where it is prohibited or to damage protected plants or habitats.

6. Your Content

You retain your rights in the photos, measurements, location notes, and other content you submit. You grant Rurev a limited license to host, store, process, and display that content only as necessary to operate the service, maintain your account, provide features you request, and comply with law. You are responsible for having the right to submit your content and for how you use the service.

As between you and Rurev, you may use the field summaries, comparison cards, and posters you generate for lawful personal purposes, subject to any third-party rights. Summaries may be inaccurate, incomplete, or similar to output generated for others, and are not guaranteed to be unique or owned exclusively by you. You are responsible for checking any output before relying on it.

7. Field Summaries and Comparison Cards

Rurev can create a field summary or comparison card from the specimen records you choose. These summaries are generated on your device from the details you have recorded, such as photos, dimensions, source-cone number and position, and collection date and site. Generating a summary does not send your photos or notes to a third-party service. You can save a summary to your field cards and revisit it later.

Field summaries and comparison cards are for personal reference. They may describe visible differences between specimens but do not establish a specimen's species, origin, or authenticity. Do not use them for medical, legal, financial, or personal-safety decisions.

8. Purchases

Rurev includes free features. Your first two field summaries, and your first two shareable posters, are free. After that, each summary or poster uses 30 coins. Coins are digital consumable credits for in-app features; they are not money, cannot be transferred, and cannot be redeemed for cash except where law requires otherwise. Rurev displays the coin cost before you confirm a request.

This app does not offer any subscription, recurring payment, or auto-renewing service. All purchases are one-time consumable in-app purchases. Apple processes App Store payments and refunds under its applicable policies. To keep your coin balance accurate, Rurev verifies each completed purchase with our servers using the App Store transaction identifier; a verified purchase adds the coins to your account. Submit refund requests to Apple, subject to your mandatory legal rights.

9. Intellectual Property and Copyright Complaints

Rurev and its software, design, branding, and service content are owned by Rurev or its licensors and protected by applicable intellectual property law. These Terms do not transfer those rights to you.

If you believe content in Rurev infringes your copyright, email Rurev@gmail.com with identification of the rights holder and your authority to act, the protected work, the location of the material at issue, your contact information, a statement of your good-faith belief that the use is unauthorized, and your physical or electronic signature. We will review complete notices and respond as required by law.

10. Third-Party Services

Rurev relies on Apple for app distribution, in-app purchases, and the purchase verification data used to credit coins. Those services operate under their own terms and privacy practices. You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using Rurev. To the extent permitted by law, Rurev is not responsible for the independent acts of third-party services, but remains responsible for its own obligations under these Terms and applicable law.

11. Termination

You may stop using Rurev at any time and may initiate account deletion as described above. We may suspend or terminate your access if you materially breach these Terms, misuse the service, or create a security or legal risk, subject to applicable law. When access ends, your license ends. Terms concerning accrued purchase obligations, content rights needed to resolve prior use, intellectual property, disclaimers, liability, indemnification, disputes, and general provisions survive to the extent relevant.

12. Disclaimers

To the extent permitted by law, Rurev is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE," without warranties of uninterrupted operation, accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, or noninfringement. We do not guarantee that a scale comparison or field summary will be complete or correct. Nothing in these Terms excludes a warranty or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded.

13. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Rurev is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive losses arising from the service. Rurev's total liability for claims related to Rurev is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for Rurev in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim or US $50. This limit does not apply where prohibited by law or to liabilities that cannot be limited. Mandatory consumer rights in your jurisdiction remain unaffected.

14. Indemnification

To the extent permitted by law, you will indemnify Rurev against third-party claims, losses, and reasonable costs arising from your breach of these Terms, infringement of another person's rights, or unlawful content you submit. This does not require you to indemnify Rurev for its own misconduct or obligations that law places on Rurev.

15. Governing Law and Disputes

Before filing a formal claim, please contact Rurev@gmail.com and allow 30 days for good-faith discussion. These Terms are governed by the law applicable to the dispute as determined by a court with competent jurisdiction. Either party may bring an unresolved dispute before a court with competent jurisdiction. Nothing here removes mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live, and these Terms do not require arbitration.

16. Apple App Store Terms

The following terms apply when you obtain Rurev through the Apple App Store:

  • These Terms are between you and Rurev only, not Apple. Rurev, not Apple, is responsible for the app and its content.
  • Your license is limited to use on Apple-branded products you own or control under Apple's Usage Rules, including any use allowed through Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
  • Rurev is responsible for maintenance and support required by these Terms or applicable law. Apple has no maintenance or support obligation.
  • If the app fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple may refund the app's purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation; Rurev is responsible for other warranty claims and related losses.
  • Rurev, not Apple, handles claims about the app or its use, including product liability, legal or regulatory compliance, consumer protection, and privacy claims.
  • Rurev, not Apple, is responsible for investigating, defending, settling, and discharging any third-party intellectual property infringement claim concerning the app.
  • You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated by the U.S. Government as a terrorist-supporting country, and are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms. Once you accept them, Apple has the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms and will change the Last updated date above. We will notify you of material changes in the app. Continued use after updated Terms take effect means you accept them, except where applicable law requires another form of consent. If you do not accept a change, stop using Rurev and request account deletion if desired.

18. General

If a provision is unenforceable, the rest of these Terms remains effective. These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement concerning Rurev, except for rights that applicable law preserves. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not assign these Terms without Rurev's written consent; Rurev may assign them as part of a lawful business transfer, subject to your mandatory rights.
